When you choose Career, Work, or Business Coaching from Lemons to Lemonade, you’ll work with Stephen in one-to-one sessions that are usually 50 minutes long. While social distancing is needed, we are holding our coaching sessions by online video using the Zoom app which is very easy to use, or by phone if clients prefer.. We offer a free, informal 15-minute telephone discussion to help you choose whether you’d like to arrange Career, Work, or Business Coaching with us. You can call or text to arrange this on 07376 010506 or email us.

The most effective pattern of coaching work is to have weekly sessions on the same day at the same time, so that’s our normal arrangement, though we can vary from this if it’s difficult for you. The length of coaching depends on the nature and complexity of your issues: it is typically six sessions, though in some cases several more may be needed.

Career, Work, or Business Coaching from Lemons to Lemonade is a collaborative process in which we work with you to help you change your working life for the better. We don’t try and tell you what to do, our approach is about helping you to change things for yourself; you’re the expert in yourself at work, your role, your relationships with bosses and colleagues, your strengths and weaknesses. Our expertise is in ways of helping you draw on your own values, skills, and knowledge to achieve the changes you’re looking for. Our Business Coach, Stephen, has over thirty years’ experience working in organisations of various sizes in a variety of roles including mentoring and coaching staff, and is a nationally-recognised expert in changing people’s behaviours: he was asked to contribute both a seminar and oral evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee’s inquiry into Behaviour Change.

Career, Work, or Business Coaching at Lemons to Lemonade typically consists of three stages:

Stage 1: Exploring and defining your work or career issues

Some clients approach us with a specific issue in mind, in which case this stage might be quite brief. Other clients may have several issues, or a more general sense of dissatisfaction, or a sense that they want to explore the possibilities of a change in career. In this initial stage we explore and prioritise your issues and identify the values, skills, and knowledge you can bring to bear to help resolve them. We use a repertoire of methods including a comprehensive personality questionnaire based on up-to-date personality psychology, a goal mapping process, and approaches adapted from Narrative Therapy.

Stage 2: Developing a Personal Work Improvement Strategy or Career Strategy

A Personal Work Improvement Strategy is a plan for attaining an important personal goal related to work. Likewise a Career Strategy is a plan for building a fulfilling career. Both types of strategy take into account that you only have limited resources (there’s only one of you, you can’t be in two places at once, there are only 24 hours in a day, you have good skills in some work activities but less in others). Good Personal Work Improvement or Career Strategies takes into account that you’ll encounter obstacles as you try to resolve your work issues (coming, for instance, from bosses, colleagues, or simply the nature of your work) and plans for how you’ll deal with them. It also helps you apply your personal values, skills and knowledge in the most effective ways. At Lemons to Lemonade we’ve adapted methods for formulating strategies used by successful organisations so that they apply equally well to individuals at work.

Stage 3: Implementing your Personal Work Improvement or Career Strategy

Once you have a Personal Work Improvement or Career Strategy that you’re happy with, we’ll support you in putting it into practice. This usually involves you in changing behaviours – for instance dropping things that you’re used to doing but don’t really help you resolve your work issues and starting to do things that fit better with your Personal Work Improvement Strategy. We’ll draw on some of the recognised tools and techniques of good project management and coach you in a range of evidence-based practices that have been proven to help people deal with problems and improve their personal effectiveness. Our Stage 3 process will help you to choose the practices you’d prefer to try out, support you as you start to use them, and then enable you to check-in periodically to discuss ways to deal with any obstacles or issues that may have come up, review your progress, and notice and celebrate your successes to date.
